Hi everyone! Welcome to today’s art lesson. We’re going to focus on shading techniques to make your drawings look more three-dimensional and realistic.
First, let’s understand the concept of light source, imagine where the light is coming from, because that’s where the highlights will be. The areas away from the light will have shadows.
Start by lightly sketching your object, like a simple sphere or cube. Now, using your pencil, practice applying different pressures: press lightly for lighter shades and harder for darker shadows.
Use small circular motions or gentle strokes to fill in the shaded areas. To make the shading smooth, try blending with your finger, a tissue, or a blending stump.
Remember, shading helps show form and texture, not just darkness. For today’s exercise, draw a sphere and shade it considering the light source. Observe where the light hits and where the shadows fall. This practice will help you create depth and bring your drawings to life.
Keep practicing these techniques, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different pencils and pressures. Your art will improve with every stroke. Have fun and keep creating!
