Hi everyone! I’m Karen Mitchell, Store Finance Manager at UrbanMart Retail. Today, I’ll guide you through our cash handling procedure to ensure accuracy, security, and accountability at every register.
The first step is preparing your cash drawer before your shift. Always confirm the opening balance, organize bills properly, and report any discrepancies before starting transactions.
Next is handling transactions securely during sales. Count cash carefully, confirm the amount received, give the correct change directly to the customer, and issue a receipt every time. Be sure to check large bills for authenticity, keep register access secure, and close the cash drawer when not in use.
Finally, at the end of your shift, balance and close the register. Count the remaining cash, compare it with sales records, and report any shortages or overages immediately. Any excess cash must also be transferred securely following company procedures.
By following these three steps consistently, we can maintain secure operations, accurate financial records, and a safe retail environment for both employees and customers.
