Workplace First Aid Basics

Emergencies can happen anytime, and knowing workplace first aid basics can make all the difference.
The first step is stay calm and quickly assess the situation. If someone is injured, check for responsiveness and breathing. If they’re not breathing, call emergency services immediately and begin CPR — thirty chest compressions followed by two rescue breaths.
For bleeding, apply firm, direct pressure with a clean cloth until help arrives. In case of burns, cool the area with running water for at least ten minutes, but avoid ice or ointments.
If someone is choking, perform the Heimlich maneuver — quick upward thrusts just above the stomach.
Always remember, your safety comes first. Use gloves or protective gear when possible, and never move an injured person unless they’re in danger.
By learning these simple techniques and following workplace safety protocols, employees can respond effectively, protect lives, and create a safer workplace for everyone.
